Dated 1828 but made using much earlier embroidered figures taken and re-applied from an 16th century panel

Hand-painted Antique Portrait Wallhanging Kalamkari: C19th Isfahan, Persia Turkmen coat They are in never wornDating from the late 19th, early 20th century and from Isfahan, Persia where this type of Kalamkari were produced, a lovely example of a story telling wall hanging. Hand painted with a block printed border in pinks, apricot and aubergine brown onto a very fine cotton ground.. Portraying a scene from The Book Of Kings this was designed to be hung in a domestic setting. The panel has been conserved, and backed by our studios with a putty colour
